Douglas Hugh Murphy, of Nocona, Texas, passed away May 14, 2023 at Advanced Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Bowie, Texas. He was 64.  

The son of Donald Gene and Melba Jo (Durham) Murphy, he was born on November 2nd, 1958 in Henrietta, Texas. Doug grew up in Nocona, Texas and graduated from Nocona High School with the class of 1977. During high school, he worked at Nocona Athletic Goods and they sent him to Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI) in Waco, Texas.

On September 17, 1983 Doug married Mary Beth Wooster. They were happily married 15 years until her passing in 1998. 

Twice blessed, Doug met Cindra Susan Gardner the Saturday before Easter in 2000 and they married a year later on the Saturday before Easter, April 14, 2001 in Happy Union Baptist Church in Plainview, TX. They were blessed with 22 years of marriage before his passing in 2023.

After working some years in the oilfield as a roustabout, Doug worked for Walmart in Bowie,Texas for 32 years until he was no longer able to work in 2019.

Cindra and Doug are members of Christ Community Church.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Beth, his sister Donna Murphy Tarpley, his uncles Leo Durham, J. T. Murphy, his aunts Lynda Cornelison DeFrates, Loretta Bishop, Christine Murphy, Verlia June Murphy, and Georgia Murphy, and sister-in-law Bonnie Clark. 

Doug is survived by his wife, Cindra, his brother Harlan and wife Karen, his aunt Mozelle Palmer and husband James, and later discovered a sister,Treva (Murphy) McLeod and husband Rick. He is also survived by nephews John Tarpley and wife Natalie, Steven Tarpley and wife Casie, Timothy Tarpley and wife, Rebecca, and niece Kimberly (Tarpley) Dick and husband, James. Also surviving are many great nieces and nephews:  Brandon and Laura Tarpley, Enoch, Amos, and Titus Tarpley, Makinsley and Jackson Dick, Katelyn Murphy, Gregory Schnieder, Jacob Schnieder, Nathan Schnieder, Hunter Sloan, and Ally Sloan. Doug was also blessed with Rick Tarpley (brother-in-law) and his wife, Kathy (Baird) and her famiy, and  Mary Beth’s (Wooster and Clark) family.

September 7, 1958 – August 24, 2023
NOCONA – Jerry Glenn Newland, 64, died on Aug. 24, 2023 at his home in Nocona.
A visitation was at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 27, at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel in Nocona. A graveside service followed at 2 p.m. at Nocona Cemetery with the Rev. Dave Woodbury as the officiant. Pallbearers were Brandon Price, Bobby Walcutt, Levi Newland, Shane Newland, Wesley Newland and Cheyenne Romine.
He was born Sept. 7, 1958 in Nocona. He graduated from Nocona High School in 1977 then attended Texas State Technical College in Waco studying heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
After graduation he moved to Wichita Falls and began working for James Lane until moving back to Nocona in 1981, taking over the family plumbing business with his brother. Later in life he worked for Palco Heating and Plumbing in Wichita Falls. In 2001 he began working for Schwabe Inc. in Saint Jo building custom Peterbilt trucks. He was a member of Sons of American Legion in Nocona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Cotton Newland; daughter, Cassandra Newland and one grandson.
He is survived by his son, William Newland, Nocona; two grandchildren; brother, Terry Newland, Bonita, TX; sisters, Debbie Youngblood, Benbrook, TX and Lana Serna, Sanger; daughter, Jennifer Samples, Nocona; two half-siblings and numerous nieces, nephews and close cousins.
Memorial donations may be made to the Carpenter’s Shop, 400 Boston, Nocona, TX 76255.

John David Hancock, 64, of Nocona, Texas, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He and his identical twin brother, Joe were born in Perryton, Texas on March 8, 1958, to David Gaunder & Mary K. Simmons. John graduated from Nocona High School in 1977. He worked in the oil & gas industry for 45+ years where he made many lifelong friends. John had a passion for horse racing, and when he wasn’t working you could find him at the horse barn, training, cleaning stalls and riding, but probably mostly talking. John never met a stranger and didn’t have a worry in the world. He lived life by the seat of his pants, and by the grace of God, everything always worked out for the best. He married the love of his life, the late Marion Hancock, on October 22, 1979.
He is survived by their two daughters, Brandy Contreras and husband Alo of Wichita Falls, Courtney Copeland, and husband Jimmy of Wichita Falls, four grandchildren, Kynlee, Vanson, Truitt and Kycelynn. He is also survived by his brothers, Joe Hancock of Nocona, Texas, Jimbo Hancock of Nocona, Texas.

Terry Don Robertson, 64, passed from this earthly life on July 29, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family after a two year battle with leukemia.  

He was born on April 14, 1956 in Denver, CO to Avis and Donna Donnell Robertson. Terry Don had been in construction all of his life and was the owner of Nocona Building Center, Inc for 22 years.  He had a passion for the outdoors, and enjoyed nature, hunting, fishing, and boating. He received his captain's license issued by the American Sailing Association in Honolulu, HI and chartered several vacations in the Caribbean with close friends. He also enjoyed classic cars and turning things old into something new. He was a true craftsman and artist.  He will be remembered by one of his favorite sayings "You've gotta be smarter than what you're working with". Terry Don was a graduate of Nocona High School and a member of the Class of 1974.  

He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Marvi Ann McWhirter on June 14, 1982 in Waurika OK.  He is survived by his wife Marvi of Nocona; his father, Avis Robertson of Nocona; son Shannon Robertson and wife Christie of Taylor MI; daughter Stephanie Dawn Robertson of Granbury; son Ryan Robertson of Frisco; daughter Terah Bowles and husband, Toby of Nocona; brothers Randall Robertson and wife Debbie of Bastrop, Gary Robertson and wife Bonnie, of Nocona, Duane Robertson and wife Karen of Nocona; grandchildren Meg Robertson of Glen Rose, Tanner and Taylor Rivera of Nocona,  Raylea and Maddyn Bowles of Nocona,  Mason Robertson of Corinth, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Louise Robertson on July 29, 2018.  

Terry Don was a member of Lake Nocona Yacht Club, Jean's Men's Bible Class and Nocona Gas Junkies/Indian Valley Raceway.

There will be a visitation at 10 A.M. on Saturday, August 1, at the First Baptist Church of Nocona followed by the funeral service at 11:00 officiated by former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Nocona,and close family friend, David Bowman.  Interment will follow in Nocona Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Eddy Leatherwood, W.R. Tucker, Toby Howard, Mike Storey, Bruce Major, Harvey Hancock, Dan Fenoglio, James Fenoglio, James Daniel, Stan Phipps, and John Woods.  Memorial donation may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
